功能:Thiol-specific peroxidase that catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic hydroperoxides to water and alcohols, respectively. Plays a role in cell protection against oxidative stress by detoxifying peroxides and as sensor of hydrogen peroxide-mediated signaling events. Might participate in the signaling cascades of growth factors and tumor necrosis factor-alpha by regulating the intracellular concentrations of H(2)O(2). Reduces an intramolecular disulfide bond in GDPD5 that gates the ability to GDPD5 to drive postmitotic motor neuron differentiation.

- These phenomena increased liver apoptosis through increasing cleaved caspase3 protein expression in Prx I/ mice after LPS injections, resulting in high lethality after LPS challenges. These findings provide a new insight for understanding the function of Prx I against endotoxininduced injury. PMID: 29901182
- Data suggests that Prdx1 and Prdx2 in pronuclei of zygotes are involved in antioxidant mechanisms and epigenetic programming during maternal-to-zygotic transition (during ectogenesis following in vitro fertilization). PRDX1 and PRDX2 appear to be ninth and twenty-second highest expressed proteins, respectively, among 64 proteins identified in mouse zygotes. PMID: 29503398
